HERA & Crisis Preparedness

CPME WG on Pharmaceuticals – Chairperson: Prof. Dr Wolf-Dieter LUDWIG (DE)
CPME Secretariat: Mr Diogo TEIXEIRA PEREIRA

With the creation of the European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA), the European Commission has correctly recognised the need for a new mechanism responsible for innovation related to health emergencies. HERA offers the opportunity to establish a new public-driven model of R&D that ensures health innovations respond to real public health needs and are equally accessible. The Authority should help the EU to achieve better preparedness and response to health emergencies.

European doctors are involved in the medical countermeasures by their application in daily practice and contributing these experiences to policy development to enhance crisis preparedness, as well as creating, promoting and participating education and training, including continuing professional development. During health emergencies, they provide critical care and work with other healthcare professionals and health authorities for an effective and coordinated response.

CPME is member of the Health Emergency Response Authority (HERA) Civil Society Forum and also the Critical Medicines Alliance working group on “Strengthening manufacturing capacities in the EU for critical medicines to better prevent and fight their shortages”.
