Health Literacy & Patient Empowerment
CPME Rapporteur: Dr Katrín FJELDSTED (IS)
CPME Secretariat: Mr Markus KUJAWA
Health literacy means the capacity to make sound health decisions and to effectively use health-related information, in order to promote and maintain good health. CPME has contributed to the EU level discussion as part of the Health Literacy Coalition.
Moreover, a good patient-doctor relationship is essential in order to achieve optimal results from treatment. One of the prerogatives is patient empowerment which helps people gain control over their own lives and increases their capacity to act on issues that they themselves define as important. Since 2018, CPME has been a member of the advisory board of the Centre for Empowering Patients and Communities (CEmPaC).
